FUN
IN THE SUN
Things
to be aware of when having fun in the sun
| * |
Apply
Sunscreen daily, if possible 1/2 hour before sun
exposure, and reapply often, especially after
swimming or exercise, even the waterproof sunscreens. |
| |
| |
| * |
Consider
sunscreening children before they get dressed
so you don't miss any edges around clothes. |
| |
| |
| * |
Ensure
children wear wide-brimmed hats (although any
hat is better than none at all - baseball caps
worn brim forward at least offer some protection
to the face and eyes) |
| |
| |
| * |
Look
for a broad spectrum sunscreen - for children
use a 30 SPF or higher is best, that is a milky
lotion. The higher the SPF the longer the skin
takes to burn. |
| |
| |
| * |
Look
for strollers that have a canopy and watch babies
feet are covered. Make sure when baby is sleeping
they have complete coverage from the sun. |
| |
| |
| * |
Make
sure Dad and Mom use sunscreen too. Give the Kids
the responsibility of reminding you - they may
take it quite seriously and so they should. |
| |
| |
| * |
Protect
or limit sun exposure between 10am and 4 pm, when
the UV rays are strongest - Use and teach children
to use their shadow as a guide - NO SHADOW - SEEK
SHADE |
| |
| |
| * |
Sunglasses
that afford 100% UV protection (make sure that
all family members have sunglasses with this on
the label), will protect the eyes from the sun's
constant danger to eyes. |
| |
| |
| * |
Watch
for dehydration and sunstroke in children - have
them drink plenty of fluids during the day. |
