SAFETY AT THE HOTEL
Things to be aware of when staying at a hotel.

* Always keep fingers away from elevator doors.

* Avoid using fireplaces in hotel rooms. If you do use it, supervise children closely and teach them never to go near it just in case the fireplace has been used recently and is still hot.

* Check your room for safety including, but not limiting electrical outlets, furniture with sharp corners, loose equipment - get down on all fours and take a look from a child's perspective.

* Children should not play on luggage carts.

* Don't let children wander the hotel unsupervised.

* If a child accidentally gets onto the elevator without a parent, teach them how to get to the lobby and go straight to the lobby desk.

* If you are drinking alcohol in your room or there is alcohol in the mini-fridge, make sure it is out of reach of young children including empty glasses - alcoholic beverages can cause serious illness or death if ingested by a small child.

* If you get caught in an elevator, press the emergency button - but never play with the emergency button

* Make sure you check the hot water for the bath to ensure that the water is not too hot - also cool down the tap before children go into the tub and instruct them not to play with the taps - always supervise young children in the bath - Never leave them unattended.

* Make sure young children can not reach coffee maker or hairdryers while in the bath tub

* Never fool around on escalators and always hold on to the hand rail.

* Never leave the elevator with a stranger to their room.

* Put all soaps, shampoos, plastic bags, matches and toiletries out of reach.

* Remove Dry cleaning bags or place them out of reach.

* Review Hotel Fire Escape procedures and locate exits

* Review safety concerns with children regarding jumping from bed to bed, never standing on chairs on the balconies, **don't let children out on balconies without close adult supervision**, don't open door, and any other concerns you may have.

* Watch that young children don't eat any plants that may be in the room or lobby.
